Growing grapes

Growing a grape is a complex and time consuming which include a number of steps. Grapes can grow in variety of soils and will flourish with a reasonable amount of sunshine. Potted grapes can be planted at any time, but bare root grapes must be planted while the vines are still dormant. Grapevines should only be watered when they are initially planted. Grow grapes in a sunny location, with plenty of air circulation.
It will take a new grape vine two to four years to begin producing fruit.

The first step in the process is to select the type of grape you want to grow. It depends on the climatic condition, type of soil, purpose of growing grape. Some research should be done for this.
The next step in the process is to plant the grapevines. It should be plant in rich and well-drained soil. Proper drainage is a key point in growing grapes. It needs plenty of water during the first month or so after they are planted. Keep the roots moist for the first month if possible. The roots of a single grapevine can spread out three to six feet from the base of the plant.
Check the leaves in the first couple years as you grow grapes, the leaf should be dark green and healthy. Train your grapevine on a trellis.
For the first few years, vines should be kept weed free. Later, you should keep the ground as bare as possible to allow the soil to heat up in cold regions, or in warmer areas you can allow a short ground cover to grow. Growing grapes in a sunny location, with an abundance of air circulation can help cut down on powdery mildew and fungus growth and protect the grape plants from pests, such as insects, birds, and mildew or fungus.
Harvest grapes when the bottom and middle of the cluster are ripe. Look for rich colours and taste to determine whether the fruit is ripe.
Growing grapes can be a very rewarding experience, but it does take time and dedication.
