The type of grapes depends upon a number of factors like its colour, flavour, body and smell. There are some grapes which have alcoholic contents also.
Usually the grapes are divided on the basis of its colour. They are white wine grapes and red wine grapes.
White wine grapes.
Chardonnay: this is one of the most famous grapes in the family. The growing of this types of grape is not depends upon the climate so it can seen everywhere. Chardonnay is the main ingredient for Champagne and it usually has an oak flavour.
Chenin Blanc: this type of fruit mainly available in US and France and it is also known as Pinot. It is used to produce Vouvray and other well known wines. It also produces a viscous wine which gives a thickness in our mouth.
Gewurtztraminer: In German language the word means “spicy” and it has a high alcoholic content.
Muscat: it doesn’t ripen easily and it has high grapey taste.
Pinot Gris.:it is also known as Rulander or Grauer Burgunder.it is used to make dry, spicy white wine and roses.
Riesling: this is very difficult to grow and it can be used to make dry crisp,fruity, honey flavoured and ice wines.
Semillon: it has a blending with Pinot Blanc and thin skinned grape which ripens early. It has a grassy and figgy flavour.
Sauvignon Blanc: it produces a grassy acid and makes crisp, light, dry wine.
Pinotage: it has a hearty, fruity and spicy taste.
Nebbiolo: this grapes ripe lately and hard and difficult to grow.
Red wine grapes
Cabernet Sauvignon:this grapes are red, small and touch and it contains lots of tannin and tents to taste blackberries and cedar.
Merlot: it has flavour like cherry, honey and mint and it is fast growing one. It has a deep colored, full bodied wine that is low in tannin and often has the flavor of prunes or sometimes chocolate.
Pinot Noir: these are very soft and very sensitive and the flavors and aromas vary considerably depending on the growing and processing of these grapes.
Syrah.:it has a blueberry,mineral,spicy and pepper flavour. Syrah produces a full bodied, dark colored wine rich in tannins.
